Texas has officially passed a new knife regulation impacting hunters across the state. Senate Bill 287, signed into law by Governor Alicia Martinez, will take effect on July 1, 2025.
Under the new law, any knife with a blade over 6 inches must be secured in a locking sheath while being transported on public hunting grounds.
What Hunters Must Know:
- Applies only to public-access hunting zones
- Sheath must have locking mechanism
- Fines up to $200 for non-compliance
“We’re updating our product line with legal sheaths already,” says CowboyCutlery’s Product Manager James Dutton.
Hunters are encouraged to check their gear early to avoid legal issues during fall hunting season.
